We all have a bucket list of things we all want to do like a balloon flight, seeing the northern lights, and doing an epic fundraiser! As a charity, we are really interested in that last idea.
Following on from the previous post the (Red) Devils in the detail.
Then the pandemic hits and the world stops. Finally, the world moved on…We were invited to attend an Army Welfare Service event in Tidworth in August 2022. A full-on family fun day with lots of activities. We turned up with our gazebo and immediately found some helpful army folk to help put it up. It was a hot day and we settled in with the bubble machine to amuse the masses.
Around lunchtime, various notables were cruising the stalls and introducing themselves. I had been thinking about fundraising and casting aside the ones that require lots of effort and training. I remembered that a colleague’s husband had been tagged for a parachute jump in tandem but decided he wasn’t brave enough, sensible chap. Here I was surrounded by amazing, brave army folk. Next to meet and greet was a very chatty and pleasant AWS Warrant Officer by the name of Bekki Sugden. Hmmm, I wondered… I will let my poor victim tell it from here:
“Whilst out at an AWS Community Support event in the summer, minding my own business and chatting to people, I came across the Home-Start stand. The conversation quickly got around to a charity event Skydive. So without thinking, and in true soldier style, I jumped at the chance, no pun intended. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?” WO Bekki Sugen
