A few days ago WO Bekki Sugden did an amazing tandem skydive with the Army’s Red Devils to help us celebrate our 35th birthday! You really do need to watch this. Bekki is a member of the Army Welfare Service, Salisbury Plain. She agreed to do this to raise funds for both organisations. We would like to thank Bekki and Vicky and the AWS team at Tidworth for their continued support and the Red Devils for this very special tandem jump and for sharing it with us! Below Bekki describes how she came to be jumping out of that plane.
“When I was initially asked about jumping out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane, I leapt at the chance, full of confidence and bravado, as you do when you are surrounded by peers wanting to look invincible! The reality of that decision sunk in and was a quivering wreck! I mean what sane normal person jumps out of a plane willingly? Particularly when you’re in your mid 40’s! I know this is a really difficult time financially for people, but I’m hoping the community will get behind this great event, even if it’s just to laugh at me hurtling to the ground at Mach speed, so we can raise funds for Home-Start North Wiltshire and the Army Welfare Service. Home-Start North Wiltshire (HSNW) has been extremely successful in reaching out to support our military community, providing an in-home service to local military families. This bespoke service is delivered by volunteers, recruited and trained by HSNW, to those families who are struggling with challenges in their lives. AWS has signposted and made many referrals to this service to enhance the support for military families who may for example have been experiencing loneliness and isolation, low self-esteem and low-level mental health issues. Home-Start has been adaptive to the needs of families, further cementing their support and offer to local families, engaging directly once a week for 2-3 hours, promoting confidence, resilience and wellbeing through emotional and practical support.” WO Bekki Sugden (AWS)
HSNW celebrates its 35th birthday this year. As the person who asked Bekki if she would jump out of a plane to raise funds one day last August [2022].
